Perrish Cox Could Face Life Sentence for Sexual Assault

Filed under:

Perrish Cox could face life in prison if convicted of sexual assault charges filed last week, according to a portion of the case unsealed by a Douglas County judge.

While most details of the case remain sealed, the charges against Cox are Class 3 and 4 felonies, which carry a sentence of two years to life in prison. The classes of felonies involve a helpless victim.

Cox, the Broncos rookie cornerback, was arrested earlier this month on a sexual assault allegation dating back to October. Lone Tree police responded to a complaint on Oct. 28 and, after an investigation, presented a case to the District Attorney, leading to charges and an arrest warrant.

After being released on bail, Cox played in the Broncos' loss to the Cardinals Sunday.

Cox was considered one of the best cornerback prospects in the 2010 draft out of Oklahoma State, but character concerns caused him to fall to Denver in the fifth round. He was suspended for his final college game due to curfew violations and fined by the Broncos in September for making a throat-slash gesture at Matt Hasselbeck.
